Japan Working Visa Guide
Japan Working Visa Guide
1 - 3 Months
The Japanese Working Visa permits foreign nationals to engage in paid employment in Japan across various professional categories. There are multiple work visa types, including the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services (ESHIS) visa for white-collar professionals, the Specified Skills Visa for skilled workers in sectors like nursing and agriculture, and the Highly Skilled Professional visa for specialized fields. The application process is employer-driven: your Japanese employer must first apply for a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the Immigration Services Agency before you can apply for the visa at an embassy or consulate abroad. Applicants typically require a degree or equivalent experience, and for most professional roles, Japanese language proficiency of JLPT N2 or higher is expected. The visa can be renewed indefinitely if employment continues, and after living in Japan for a certain period, you may become eligible to apply for permanent residency.
